Mary Ann Correa

M.Ed., LPC

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas (License #88650), working with tweens, teens, young adults and families who are navigating the emotional and social challenges of growing up.

With a background as both a middle school classroom teacher and an elementary school counselor, I bring a deep, practical understanding of the pressures children face today—academically, socially and emotionally. I’ve spent 15 years working directly with students in school settings, giving me a front-row seat to the realities of friendship dynamics, classroom stress, performance expectations and the social world children navigate every day.

I earned my Master of Education in Professional School Counseling from Lamar University in 2020 and my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State University in 2011. Since 2022, I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. My approach to therapy is thoughtful, developmentally informed and grounded in building trust.

I believe children don’t need to be “fixed.” They need support, understanding and tools that help them make sense of their experiences and emotions—at their own pace.

Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, I am the youngest of three sisters and bring a strong appreciation for family and connection into my work.

I am an active member of the American School Counseling Association.

My Approach

Therapy looks different for everyone.

My work is grounded in evidence-informed practices and guided by the belief that therapy should feel supportive, collaborative, and human.

With younger clients, I often use play-based approaches—such as games, drawing, crafts and sand tray work—to help children feel comfortable and express themselves without pressure.

My approach is informed by principles from play therapy, CBT, DBT, and ACT, and is adapted to meet each client’s individual needs. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all model, sessions are tailored to my client’s goals, preferences and what feels most helpful for them. The goal is to deliver therapy that is flexible and grounded in real-life application.

With tweens and teens, I begin from an empathetic, conversational starting point, meeting them where they are and moving at a pace that feels safe.

For children who struggle to express their feelings in words, creative and play-based tools provide a natural way to communicate and build trust. Progress in therapy often looks like:

  • Improved emotional regulation

  • Stronger coping skills

  • Increased self-awareness

  • Greater confidence

  • Healthier communication

  • A new perspective on themselves and others
